South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to be reelected for a second term after his African National Congress party signed a last-minute coalition agreement with its long-time political rival as the new Parliament convened to choose the country’s leader. The deal that was dramatically finalized on Friday will bring the ANC together in government with the Democratic Alliance, a white-led party that had for years been the main opposition and a fierce foe for the ANC. Leaders of France’s new leftist alliance have warned that the far right is “at the door of power.” Allied in a coalition known as the New Popular Front, they outlined their plan to prevent the surging far right from taking power in upcoming national legislative elections. The leaders of the usually fractious French left-wing parties said at a news conference on Friday that they have closed ranks to prevent a victory by Marine Le Pen’s National Rally party which could result in the French far right leading a government for the first time since World War II. The early election, called by President Emmanuel Macron, will take place in two rounds on June 30 and July 7. The Princess of Wales says she is “making good progress” in her cancer treatment and will attend Saturday’s royal Trooping the Color ceremony, Kate’s first public appearance since her diagnosis. The 42-year-old wife of Prince William has not made any public appearances this year. She announced in March that she was undergoing chemotherapy for an unspecified form of cancer. She says in a statement Friday: “I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days." The Republican National Committee is launching a battleground state initiative to mobilize some 100,000 polling place monitors, poll workers and attorneys to serve as “election integrity” watchdogs in November. The effort, announced Friday in Michigan, immediately drew concerns that it would lead to harassment of election workers and undermine trust in voting. The RNC says its new “election integrity division” will help U.S. citizens have faith in the electoral process and ensure their votes matter. Federal officials are investigating how parts made with titanium sold with falsified documentation wound up in Boeing and Airbus passenger jets. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed its investigation on Friday. Boeing and Airbus say planes that contain the parts are safe to fly, but Boeing is removing affected parts from planes that haven’t been delivered yet to airlines. Spirit AeroSystems, which makes big aircraft parts for both Boeing and Airbus, reported the falsified documents to Boeing, which in turn notified the FAA. Boeing and Airbus declined to say how many planes were built with parts made from the undocumented titanium. Google CEO Sundar Pichai has testified briefly at the federal financial conspiracy trial surrounding the collapse of once-touted startup Ozy Media. Pichai took the stand Friday. He countered Ozy founder Carlos Watson’s alleged claims that the search giant once sought to buy the company. Pichai said Google did consider hiring Watson for a high-level news executive job in 2021 and putting $25 million into Ozy in something of a tradeoff for luring him away. Prosecutors have said Watson later told another prospective investor that Pichai himself had extended a nine-figure offer to buy Ozy. A highway accident involving an SUV carrying aides to Claudia Sheinbaum, who won Mexico's June 2 presidential elections, has resulted in at least one fatality. Sheinbaum's spokesman said the advance car hit another vehicle on a highway in the northern state of Coahuila on Friday, and that one person in the other car was killed. Several Sheinbaum aides were being treated for injuries suffered in the crash. Sheinbaum was traveling in another vehicle in the convoy and was not injured. The accident happened near the city of Monclova, Coahuila, near where Sheinbaum was scheduled to accompany President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on her first tour after the elections. It's been a long strange trip for Mexico's Ecologist Green Party, which rode on its alliance with the ruling Morena party to become the second-largest voting block in Congress. The Green Party has been better known for picking presidential winners like it did this time with incoming President Claudia Sheinbaum and making strategic alliances regardless of political ideology than for taking on environmental causes. But it has always been a strange political group in Mexico. Donald Trump’s campaign has found itself defending a Supreme Court decision to strike down a ban that he himself had hailed as an achievement on gun control six years ago. He now almost denies it ever happened. The ruling on Friday draws attention to Trump's record on gun rights and claims made by him earlier this year that he “did nothing” on guns during his four years in the White House. Interest earned on profits from Russia’s frozen central bank assets would be used as collateral. Details of the deal are being hashed out by G7 leaders at their summit in Italy. The money could reach Kyiv before the end of the year. The plan is to use profits from Russia’s roughly $260 billion in frozen central bank assets as collateral. Two U.S. officials say the American-built aid pier off Gaza's coast will be detached and moved for a second time due to rough seas. The halt in aid operations raises further questions about the viability of the sea route. Palestinians are facing widespread hunger because the war has largely cut off the flow of food, medicine and other supplies. The two US officials said military is detaching the causeway and moving it late Friday and into Saturday to prevent it from breaking apart, as it did late last month in bad weather. The officials expect it will be back in place by next week and will be operating again. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss military planning. The Supreme Court has struck down a Trump-era ban on bump stocks, a rapid-fire gun accessory that was used in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. The high court Friday found the Trump administration did not follow federal law when it reversed course from previous administrations and banned bump stocks after a gunman in Las Vegas attacked a country music festival with assault rifles in 2017. A Texas gun shop owner challenged the ban, arguing the Justice Department wrongly classified bump stocks as illegal machine guns. The Biden administration said the department made the right call for gun accessories that can allow a rate of fire similar to an automatic weapon.
